The Arturia MiniBrute 2 is a semi-modular monophonic analog synthesizer featuring a 25-note velocity-sensitive keyboard with aftertouch, an intuitive arpeggiator/sequencer, and a massive 48-point CV/Gate patch matrix. Its 100% analog discrete voice architecture combines dual VCOs with waveform mixing, a Steiner-Parker multimode filter, and Brute Factor feedback saturation. NOTE: Voice parameters (such as filter cutoff, resonance, and oscillator levels) are controlled by physical potentiometers on the analog signal path and do not transmit or receive MIDI Continuous Controller (CC) messages. However, the MiniBrute 2 fully supports Web MIDI note sequencing, clock synchronization, pitch bend, velocity, aftertouch, and MCC configuration.

💡 How to configure the Arturia MiniBrute 2 in closeby.one

To connect your Arturia MiniBrute 2 to your web browser, connect your synth using a USB cable or a dedicated USB-to-MIDI interface.

Open the MIDI Settings panel above, set the Output Port to your connected MiniBrute 2 device, and select the correct MIDI channel (default is channel 1). Once configured, you can trigger notes, play sequences and arpeggios, synchronize master MIDI clock, and document patch routing sheets directly in your browser.

Quick Picks:

Physical Discrete Analog Architecture

The Arturia MiniBrute 2 utilizes a discrete, hands-on analog signal path where timbre parameters (such as filter cutoff, resonance, oscillator waveform mixers, and envelope timings) are wired directly to physical potentiometers. Because there are no digital encoders or DAC-controlled VCAs on the parameter circuits, voice controls do not transmit or receive MIDI Continuous Controller (CC) values.

However, the MiniBrute 2 integrates seamlessly with closeby.one for Web MIDI note sequencing, polyphonic/monophonic melody lines, arpeggios, and rock-solid MIDI clock synchronization.

Hardware Engine & Sound Generation

Oscillators & Waveforms

VCO 1 (Sawtooth + UltraSaw, Square + Pulse Width, Triangle + Metalizer) + VCO 2 (Sine / Saw / Square with Fine/Coarse tuning and pitch tracking switch) + Sub-Oscillator + White Noise Generator + External Audio Input

Filter & Resonance

Steiner-Parker 2-pole (12 dB/octave) Multi-Mode Filter (Low Pass, High Pass, Band Pass, Notch) with continuous Resonance self-oscillation and Brute Factor saturation feedback loop

Envelopes & Modulation

Dual Envelopes: 1x ADSR envelope with velocity modulation input + 1x AD/Looping envelope with CV gate triggers and attack/decay curve response

MIDI Troubleshooting

🚨 Syncing the Arp / Sequencer to closeby.one or a master clock

Press the SYNC button on the top panel of the MiniBrute 2 until 'USB' (if connected via USB) or 'MIDI' (if using DIN cables) is illuminated. In closeby.one, enable MIDI Clock Transmission in the MIDI Settings panel to automatically lock tempo and transport start/stop.

🚨 High-pitched noise or hum when using USB

This is a common USB ground loop. Power the MiniBrute 2 using its official 12V DC power adapter. If USB connectivity to a computer is required, use a USB isolator or run standard 5-pin DIN MIDI cables instead.

🚨 Sequencer or Arp does not play when hitting keys

The sync clock source might be set to an external input without receiving clock. Open the Arturia MIDI Control Center (MCC), check the 'Sync' clock configuration, or press the front-panel Sync button to switch to 'Internal' for standalone play.
